detox day 1

i started seeing a new acupuncturist about a month ago..... she (and my last acupuncturist) suggested i do a "cleanse" or "detox". because of all the toxins my body has been subjected to over the last 32 years. so, i spoke to hubs, got him on board and agreed to it. i didn't ask too many questions and i didn't wait to long. i thought it would be better to just jump right into it.....
so. here we go.

this morning i was set up with a whole bunch of appointments. first, dh and i met with the nutritionist who works out of my acupuncturists office. she laid out the guidelines, told us how the detox works, and took some crazy biometric reading with electrodes.
the results of the biometric scan...... we are not the healthiest people ever.... but we are not the unhealthiest (is that a word) people.
here is the gist....gluten free, soy free, sugar free, dairy free, caffine free, alcohol free, and then there are funny things..... like no corn or corn products, only chicken, turkey, lamb, wild game, and fish.
i am required to eat protien at every meal. and 4-6 cups of leafy greens every day. also the detox includes a package of vitamins twice a day and a protien like shake once a day.

after the nutritionist meeting i had an acupuncture treatment. and after that i soaked my feet in a detoxifiying foot bath..... that was some nasty shit. the water just filled up with gunk.

when i left the office i was truly overwhelmed. i went home and cleaned out my fridge and cabinets. i got rid of most temptations....or wrapped them up so they wont be opened until the detox is over.
i also did a little grocery shopping as the cabinets and fridge were basically empty. i was kind of freaking out.
it got better as the day went on.

i have decided to write down what i am eating on here..... mostly for myself. so i have accountablity and dont cheat.
sorry....

breakfast: an apple, pineapple, and watermelon
vitamin pack around 10:15
snack: protien shake
lunch/dinner: ( ate at 4pm) 2 baked boneless skinless chicken thighs, large mixed greens salad with tomato, cucumber, and bell pepper, tossed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and large baked sweet potato with sea salt
vitamin pack around 6pm
snack: banana
another snack: puffed rice cereal with rice milk, blueberries and agave nectar.(yum, yum, yum)

symptoms: funny feeling in throat most of the day (sore, difficulty swallowing) mild headache most of the evening and feeling tired. sore neck around 10pm.

  1. What a wonderful idea... I did one a few years ago and felt so much better afterwards :) It's tough but worth it :)) Thinking of you xoxo

  2. Sounds very paleo. I think you'll see plenty of benefits from cleaning up your eating. It's crazy to think how much crap we actually put in our bodies on a daily basis. You can do it!! Good luck.

  3. Just a tip, always have protein with your fruit to avoid blood sugar spikes. A hard boiled egg for brekkie with your fruit and a handful of almonds with your banana as an afternoon snack.

    Good luck!

  4. I eat unsalted nuts, especially almonds, for a majority of my snacks. The extra boost of protein during the day really helps.

  5. Wow, good for you. I need to do something like this for my own health.

I had to eat protein at every meal when I was pregnant with the twins due to gestational diabetes. It really is a good habit to get into, keeps your energy levels up.

  9. Wow - that sounds intense but I have to admit, I'm kind of jealous! My doctor sort of IS leaving a few stones unturned (DNA/genetics testing, for example) because he has confidence that those things aren't necessary and we'll be able to get pregnant (and keep it) without it. But if this cycle doesn't work, I'd love to do some additional testing. One question though - how does the detox help your fertility? Is it a matter of removing potentially damaging compounds from your system? Or is it clearing it out so they can test certain things? I'm so curious to see how this turns out! Your dinner actually sounded really delicious to me!

  12. I'm three years of infertile and just started a thyroid treatment as we just figured out that I am hypothyroid. I did do a 28 day detox and even though I didn't end up knocked up, I felt a whole lot better. Stick with it. I still try and maintain my detox lifestyle...no gluten-HUGE HUGE thing (read the book "wheat belly"-very interesting) and i try and not eat a lot of dairy. The detox I was on was meatless for a good part of it (other than fish) and I can't even look at chicken....or beef really at this point. I feel much more healthy, my skin looks great and I have more energy. You'll be glad you did this! Best of luck to you!
